a thousand miles per hour
A Thousand Miles Per Hour explores the process of my anxiety attacks. Anxiety lingers over me constantly til the right moment or situation triggers it. It can take over my body until the moment it is no longer me but just the anxiety. However, no one, knows that it's anxiety talking because I am masking the emotion and feelings which gets me through the day with any questions asked. The viewer will explore the process of feeling being overwhelmed, confused, and stressed, triggering anxious thoughts.
Anxiety controls parts of my life and photography is a great tool to bring awareness to it. Artists like Gabriel Isak and Tsoku Maela create works that are about their mental health and personal experiences which is inspirational because I saw photography as a pretty picture and not as a tool to bring awareness to social issues or health crises. Maela inspires me because as a black man he understands the way mental health affects the black community. He understands how it feels to silently suffer till you realize it and finally speak up. Maela also created works off the premise of black people silently suffering called Abstract Peaces.
A Thousand Miles Per Hour is the continuation of a visual dialogue about mental health in general but anxiety specifically. It is an opportunity for the viewer to realize that others experience the same feeling and emotions that they do. But, it is also available for them to acknowledge those feelings and emotions. It is a way to step into a mind that is not theirs while relating to theirs or understanding mine.
